About Us

Founded in 1980, Gainesville Presbyterian Church is a Christ-centered and Bible-based congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America, a Reformed, evangelical, and Bible-believing denomination formed in 1973. Pastor Jack Lash, who has been at GPC since 1982, expounds the Scriptures each week, encouraging the people in the grace of God and urging them to live lives consistent with the Bible's promises and commands. The hearts of the people are being knitted together in love.

The congregation first met at the Gainesville Elementary School, and three years later moved to its present building at 16127 Lee Highway (U.S. 29), south of Gainesville.

Sunday Schedule:
10:00am - Worship Service
11:45am - Break - coffee and a light snack
Noon - Sunday School for all ages

GPC is a church filled with children. So, there are Sunday School classes for all ages, from adults down to age 2. A nursery is provided for ages 2 and under during both the worship service and Sunday School. For those who wish to have their children participate, there is a children's sermon downstairs during the sermon portion of the worship service.

During the week, there are various small groups and Bible studies which meet, as well as twice a month on Sunday afternoons; a middle-through-high-school Parent and Youth Fellowship (PYF) meets monthly on Fridays; the Sr. High Bible study and fellowship meets Sunday evenings at 6:30 at various locations; the Sr. High Boys’ Bible study meets Wed. evenings at 5:30; and the Sr. High Girls’ Bible study meets at 5:30 on alternate Wednesdays.

The church is the sponsor of the L.I.F.E. (Loving Instruction For Eternity) homeschool support ministry. LIFE offers Homeschool Coop classes twice a week during the school year. There are many other LIFE programs including a homeschool graduation ceremony held the first Friday in June for LIFE members. Judy Trudeau is the L.I.F.E. Secretary. For more information, either e-mail life@gpchurch.net or check out the website at www.gpchurch.net (and click on Homeschool Support).

Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Good Friday services are held at 7:15 p.m., followed by a time of fellowship and refreshments. With a variety of musical talents, we hold a special musical presentation during the Sunday School hour on Easter Sunday and the Sunday nearest Christmas.

On the first Sunday of each month, in lieu of Sunday School, we hold either a SongFeast - when we learn new hymns and praise songs - or a Family Meeting - when topics of general interest to the congregation are explored. In each case, a potluck lunch and time of fellowship follow.

If you have questions or would like to hear more about what is happening at the church, please call Pinkie Achor, the church secretary - 540/347-2442.
